Lesson- Continents and Oceans (Part 2)

April 4,2020

Good morning students!

Hope you are all ready with your SST textbook and notebook. Let's do a quick recap of what we learnt yesterday:
  • There are 7 continents in the world- Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia.
  • There are five oceans in the world- the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Arctic Ocean and Southern Ocean.
  • Asia is the largest continent and covers nearly one-third of the land area of Earth.
Today, we are going to learn about the other continents.

Remember:

The text in red will be the questions you need to answer in your notebook.

The text in blue is to be written as it is in your notebook.

The text in green will be the new words and facts to be written in the notebook.

AFRICA

Observe the world map above. The red- coloured continent is Africa

Africa is the world's second largest continent surrounded by water bodies on all sides. The Mediterranean Sea lies to its north, the Indian Ocean to its east, and the Atlantic Ocean to its west.

Earlier, Africa was labelled as the Dark Continent because very little was known about it. However, this title is no longer valid now. Today, it is a flourishing continent.

Some of its prominent features are:

SAHARA DESERT- WORLD'S LARGEST DESERT

VICTORIA FALLS

NILE- WORLD'S LONGEST RIVER

Let's watch this video and explore some interesting facts about Africa 😎

Kindly click on the link below to watch it👇

NORTH AMERICA

Observe the world map above. The red- coloured continent is North America.

North America is the world's third largest continent, after Asia and Africa. It is surrounded by the Arctic, the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans on the north, east and west respectively.

The Isthmus of Panama connects North America to South America in the south.

ROCKY MOUNTAINS

Let's watch this video and explore some interesting facts about North America 😎

Kindly click on the link below to watch it👇

SOUTH AMERICA

Observe the world map above. The orange - coloured continent is South America.

South America is the fourth largest continent. It lies below North America and is connected to it by the Isthmus of Panama.

South America has several physiographic marvels. Like:-

ANGEL FALLS- HIGHEST WATERFALL

ATACAMA DESERT- DRIEST PLACE IN OUR PLANET

AMAZON- WORLD'S LARGEST RIVER

ANDES- WORLD'S LONGEST CONTINUOUS MOUNTAIN RANGE

Let's watch this video and explore some interesting facts about South America 😎

Chapter-Continents and Oceans

Good Morning Students

A warm welcome to all my dear students😍
I want you to feel that you are in a place where you can comfortably be yourself all while learning and growing to be the best you can be.
Now, let us start our new session with hopes and dreams that no matter how limited we might be today due to an outbreak of a pandemic disease, we will do our best to achieve what we call dreams.

Let's get ready for the class

Sit with the following things in hand:

  • S.St reader

NOTE- Index page has to be maintained neatly.

At the end of the lesson you all should be able to:-

Please note the following points, as you read through the blog:

SEVEN CONTINENTS SONG

There are seven continents on Earth. They are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia.

FIVE OCEANS SONG

There are five oceans in the world. They are the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic Ocean and the Southern Ocean. The Southern Ocean surrounds Antarctica.

The Earth is a unique planet in the solar system. Its surface is covered with 71% of water while 29% is made up of landmass. The large land masses are called continents while the water bodies are made up of oceans, bays, seas and gulfs.

New word

Landmass: a large body of land.

ASIA
