Today, we are going to discuss about 'The major oceans of the world'

By the end of the lesson, you will be able to

• define 'oceans'
• explain the features of five major oceans of the world

OCEANS- An ocean is one large continuous body of water surrounding the continents.

                  Let us discuss their features.

There are five major oceans in the world.They are the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Southern Ocean and Arctic Ocean.

4)The Southern Ocean                       Circular                  * Fourth largest ocean

                                                                                          * also known as Antarctic Ocean.

5)The Arctic Ocean                        Roughly circular         * The smallest  and the shallowest                                                                                                          ocean.

                                                                                          * Remains frozen almost throughout the                                                                                                 year.

                                                                                          * The North Pole is situated here.

                 Now let's have a look at the location of these oceans on the world map.

You can also make out the shapes of these oceans from the above map.
