LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE - REVISION WORKSHEET

LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE

    Good morning boys!

It's time for some revision👇

The locations on the Earth’s surface are determined by two reference lines known as latitude and longitude.

Let's compare these two lines 👇

Latitude
Longitude

1.They run from East to West.
They run from North to South.
2.It is known as parallels.
It is known as meridians.
3.The length of the lines are different.
The length of the lines are the same
4.It classifies heat zones.
It classifies time zones.
5.There are 181 latitude lines.
There are 360 longitude lines.
6.The largest latitude equator divides the earth into northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere.
The longitude prime meridian divides the earth into eastern hemisphere and western hemisphere.
7.These lines are parallel and lie at equal distance from each other.
They are not parallel and meet at poles.

As you have already noted down the difference between latitudes and longitudes in the previous blogs, no need to copy this chart.(This is for revising the concepts).

Now, we begin with some written work.

REVISION WORSHEET

Few instructions while you are writing down the answers:
  • First read the question, try to think of the answer on your own(you can take the help of the book) and then before writing you can cross check your answer..
  • Please be very careful of your spellings.
  • Copy the questions, followed by the answer.
  • Answers are provided at the end of the worksheet.

    2. The degree of equator is zero degree latitude.
    3. There is time difference between places on different meridians.
    4. The difference between two consecutive longitudes is of 3 minutes.
    5. 23 1/2° N Latitude is the Tropic of Capricorn.

    Q3. Fill in the blanks.

    1. On a map, the ________ run in the east-west direction.
    2. The parallels and meridians form a _________ that makes it easy to locate places.
    3. _________ is the longest parallel and it divides the earth into the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere.
    4. The tropic of Cancer is in the _______ hemisphere.
    5. To find a place on earth we must know its ________ and ________.
    6. The 90 degree N parallel is also known as the ________.

Q4. Answer the following in brief.

    a) Name five important parallels of latitude?

    b) Define prime meridian. Why is it important?
    c) What is the difference between parallels and meridians?

    ANSWERS

    Ans1:

    1- d
    2- c
    3- a
    4- b
    5- e

    Ans 2:

    1. False. The equator divides the earth into two equal halves.
    2. True
    3. True
    4. False. Difference is of 4 minutes..
    5. False. 23 1/2° N Latitude is the Tropic of Cancer.

    5. latitude, longitude
    6. North Pole
     Q4
Ans a) Five important parallels of latitude are Arctic Circle, Tropic of Cancer, Equator, Tropic of Capricorn and Antarctic Circle.
Ans b) The Prime Meridian is a line of geographical longitude that is defined at 0°. Prime Meridian is important because it divides the Earth into East/West from the North Pole to the South Pole with an imaginary line along the longitude line of 0°.
    Ans c)
    ParallelsMeridians
    1. Parallels are another name for lines of latitude.Meridians are another name for lines of longitude.
    2. Parallels don’t intersect. All meridians intersect at two places, the North Pole and the South Pole.
    3. Every parallel is a full circle.Every meridian is a semi-circle
    4. Each parallel crosses all longitudes. Each meridian crosses all latitudes.
