REALMS OF THE EARTH (Part 5)

GOOD MORNING BOYS!!

In the previous classes , we learnt about Lithosphere, Hydrosphere and Atmosphere.

In today's class, we will learn about the fourth realm of the Earth, BIOSPHERE.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

• define biosphere
• explain the importance of biosphere
• enumerate upon the adverse impacts on the it's components.

• The word Bio came from a Greek word which means life. 
• It is the part where the living organisms live. 
• It is the combination of all the realms in which life exists.

BIOSPHERE

•      The biosphere is the narrow zone of contact between the land, water and air. It is the zone where life exists.
• All organisms, from the smallest to the largest, depend on each other and on the biosphere.
• Living organisms are divided into two parts: the animal kingdom and the plant kingdom, and the three domains interact with each other and affect all life on the earth. 
• For example👇

cutting forests leads to soil erosion,                              

 natural disasters destroy life

 

         

industries release a lot of carbon dioxide       cause global warming.

• So, to maintain a balance between the three domains of the lithosphere, the hydrosphere, and the atmosphere, we must use the earth's natural resources in a limited way.
• The biosphere is the global sum of all ecosystems.

MAN AND THE BIOSPHERE

Any adverse impact on any of its components disrupts the functioning of the entire biosphere.
People play an important part in maintaining the flow of energy in the biosphere. However, they have disturbed the natural balance between the different elements of the biosphere by their activities.
