C.W: Question- answers
Q.1. Explain why 2020 is a leap year.
Ans. Since the earth takes 365 days and 6 hours to complete one revolution around the sun, so these 6 hours keep on adding for four years. This extra day is added to the month of February every fourth year. As in the year 2020, February has 29 days, so it is known as a leap year.
Q.2. How are seasons caused?
Ans Seasons are caused due to the revolution of the earth. When the northern hemisphere leans towards the sun, the southern hemisphere leans away from the sun. The northern hemisphere receives more sunrays and experiences summer season. On the other hand, southern hemisphere receives less sunrays and experiences winter season.
Similarly when the northern hemisphere leans away from the sun, the southern hemisphere leans towards it. Thus, the northern hemisphere experiences winter season whereas the southern hemisphere experiences summer season.
Diagram showing change of seasons
Draw the above diagram on the blank side of your notebook.
.Q.3. Why does Australia experience winter in June?
Ans Australia lies in the southern hemisphere due to which it leans away from the sun and receives less sunrays. Hence, Australia experiences winter in June.
