ROTATION AND REVOLUTION (PART 1)
May 01,2020
Good morning, boys!
Today, you are going to learn something interesting !
Guess what?
Before we start, let's recall that we have,so far, learnt about the shape of the earth,
finding places through latitudes and longitudes.
Our next journey towards learning will be about The Movements of the Earth.
So,today, you will be able to:
# define the terms rotation and revolution
# learn about the axis
# comprehend the significance of motions of the earth
Look at the pictures given below:
No. 1 No. 2
Which of these remind you of the Earth's movement? Give your answer in the comment.
MOVEMENTS OF THE EARTH
The Earth moves in two ways --- rotation and revolution. (the two R's of the Earth)
- Rotation refers to the spinning movement of the Earth on its axis.
- Revolution refers to the movement of the Earth around the Sun.
- Both these movements take place at the same time.
By watching this video, you must have easily learnt about the terms Rotation and Revolution.
Do you know how does the Earth rotate?
Well! It has its own axis on which it rotates.
Axis! another new term! ( I'll give you its meaning.)
The axis of the earth is an imaginary line.
*It passes straight from the North Pole to the South Pole through the center of the Earth.
*It is tilted at an angle of 23½° from the center of the Earth.
*It takes 24 hours for the Earth to complete one single rotation around its axis.
Let's find out through the picture given below.
In today's lesson we have talked about Rotation.
In the next class we will be continuing with the topic and learn about Revolution.
C.W.
Write the question and answers in your notebook. Be neat in your work.
Q.1. Fill in the blanks:
a) The Earth moves in two ways.
b) The axis of the earth is tilted at an angle of 23½° from its center.
Q.2. Answer the following questions:
a) What are the two important movements of the Earth?
Ans. The two important movements of the Earth are: Rotation and Revolution.
b) How long does it take the Earth to complete one single rotation around its axis?
Ans. It takes 24 hours for the Earth to complete one single rotation.
We are ending up the class here. Read what we have learnt today.
Till then, Take care and keep smiling !
